14 Athletes Selected to Attend Senior Women’s Phase 3 Training and Selection Camp

CANADA PREPARES FOR FIBA AMERICUP 2017 IN BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA

TORONTO, ON (July 19, 2017) – Today, Canada Basketball announced the 14 athletes who will participate in Phase 3 of the Women’s National Team Program Training and Selection camp from July 24 – August 1 in Edmonton, AB.

“We’ve had two very productive training camps this summer that have allowed us to integrate some new players into our system and provide them with valuable game experience,” said Lisa Thomaidis, Head Coach, women’s national team.  “We’re looking forward to solidifying our roster for the AmeriCup and putting a team forward that will contend for the championship once again.”

At the conclusion of the camp, the final roster will be selected to represent Canada at the upcoming FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2017 from August 6 – 13 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The top three teams from the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2017 will qualify for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2018 in Spain.

Canada was placed in Group B at today’s Official Draw and will face 14th ranked Cuba, 22nd ranked Puerto Rico, 35th ranked Mexico, and 50th ranked Paraguay in the group stage of the tournament.

Canada’s Senior Women’s National team is currently ranked 2nd in the Americas and 6th in the world by FIBA.

Media are invited to post-practice scrums on the following dates, while 1-on-1 interviews (by request only) will be held on Tuesday, July 25 from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.  Please RSVP to mwalker@basketball.ca.

Practices will take place at the Saville Centre (11610 65 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB).
