TORONTO, ON – Canada Basketball announced today a multi-year partnership with Tangerine that will have a significant impact on the delivery of its grassroots basketball program, Steve Nash Youth Basketball (SNYB).

“We’re excited to welcome Tangerine to the Canada Basketball family in support of grassroots basketball programming,” said Executive Director, Michele O’Keefe. “Programs like Steve Nash Youth Basketball are the foundation of growing the game across the country and with Tangerine’s support we’re able to reach more communities and youth across Canada.”

The partnership is part of Tangerine’s new sponsorship and community investment platform #BrightWayForward, launched today.

“Through #BrighWayForward we’ll work with Canada Basketball and Steve Nash Youth Basketball to provide young people from all backgrounds with the opportunity to learn new skills, build self-confidence, practice teamwork and leadership, and gain a sense of belonging and acceptance,” said Peter Aceto, President and CEO of Tangerine.

Tangerine’s support will add value to the SNYB program through enhanced curriculum and new initiatives like the “Tangerine Kid of the Week” program, which recognizes young athletes who demonstrate the key values of teamwork, leadership and inclusiveness.

Steve Nash, two-time NBA MVP and General Manager of Canada’s senior men’s national team, helped launch the SNYB program nationally in 2007 and was on hand today as part of the unveil: “Tangerine’s support will help us provide skills, teamwork and leadership coaching to more than 15,000 kids in communities across Canada.”

SNYB is a national youth basketball program designed to develop fundamental skills, sportsmanship and a love of the game of basketball. This grassroots initiative supports and empowers community-based recreational groups and facilities, schools and other institutions across Canada in an effort to positively influence youth through basketball. The program is currently being run in 140 communities across all provinces and territories. For more information, visit www.basketball.ca.
