U17 Team Will Compete in 2016 FIBA World Championships in Spain

TORONTO, ON (June 4, 2016) – Canada Basketball is pleased to announce the 22 athletes invited to the U17 men’s national team tryouts and training camp from June 4th-10th at Humber College – North Campus in Toronto, ON.

“We’re excited to bring this young group together. Last summer we had our best ever finish at this age-level and we look forward to seeing their development and representing Canada on the world stage,” said Dave DeAveiro, head coach.

DeAveiro (McGill University) will be joined by assistants Michael Meeks (Canada Basketball), James Derouin (University of Ottawa) and apprentice coach, Nicky Davis (Sheridan College).

Following training camp the final 12-man roster will head to France for an exhibition tournament en route to representing Canada at the 2016 U17 FIBA World Championships in Zaragoza, Spain from June 23rd– July 3rd.

In 2015, the U17 team won a silver medal at the U16 FIBA Americas Championships – the programs best-ever finish. Canada is currently ranked 3rd worldwide in the FIBA youth men rankings.
